Y Linh Ho village: Where terraced fields meet H’Mong traditions

Train Hanoi to SapaAmong the villages that are familiar with the pace of tourists in Sa Pa (Lao Cai province), Y Linh Ho still lies there, peaceful and pristine as if it has never been touched by the whirlwind of tourism.

Winding terraced fields

On his 8th visit to Sa Pa, Y Linh Ho village always makes travel blogger Pham Quang Tuyen from Hanoi overwhelmed by the beauty of terraced fields stretching along the mountainside. While many other tourist villages have been commercialized, this place still retains its distinct indigenous character. Nestled at the foot of Hoang Lien Son mountain range, Y Linh Ho opens up a vast valley scene, terraced fields winding like a golden silk strip when the rice is ripe, and green on cool summer days. It is this pure beauty that has become a favorite meeting place for photographers and nature lovers. Unlike the crowded villages near the center of Sa Pa, Y Linh Ho does not have many homestays or hotels. "Everything is still very natural, carrying the colors of the old Northwest, from the smoke from the bamboo stoves in the afternoon, to the sound of the stream flowing through the terraced fields," Tuyen said.

Forgotten place

8km from the center of Sa Pa town, the road down to the village is steep, so Y Linh Ho is often overlooked by tourists. When the sun sets, the last rays of the day cover the rice fields in gold, turning the whole valley into a brilliant picture. According to Tuyen, when coming to Y Linh Ho, visitors should keep their mind in the state of returning to nature, listening to the sound of the stream, watching children playing in the terraced fields. This is not a place to find exciting experiences, but to feel the rare peace in the heart of Sa Pa. "For me, Y Linh Ho is the most beautiful destination in terms of landscape in the villages during the ripe rice season," he said.

Where is Y Linh Ho village located?

Y Linh Ho village is located about 7 km southwest of Sapa in San Sa Ho Commune, Sapa Town, Lao Cai Province . It is nestled in the majestic Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range and stretches along the Muong Hoa Valley. The area is surrounded by majestic landscapes, with steep mountains and vast terraced fields. Unlike the crowded tourist spots nearby, Y Linh Ho still retains its pristine beauty and peaceful atmosphere, ideal for travelers who want to explore the hidden corners of Northern Vietnam.

How to get to Y Linh Ho village from Sapa?

Visitors can choose between hiking or motorbike to reach Y Linh Ho village. While both routes offer memorable adventures, they may be more ideal for experienced drivers.

By hiking

The route starts from Sa Pa town, passes through Cat Cat village, and continues to Lao Chai San 2 bridge. After passing this point, you will reach Y Linh Ho, hidden in the mountains and forests. The total distance is about 3.5 to 4 km and usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete, depending on your walking speed and how often you stop to admire the scenery.

The route has a variety of terrains: some sections are smooth and paved, while others are rocky or muddy, especially after rain. This route is best suited for active travelers who enjoy walking and want to explore unspoiled rural life. Every step of the way, you will encounter photogenic moments of terraced rice fields, majestic mountain views and daily village activities, making it a memorable part of your Sapa visit.

By motorbike

From Sa Pa town, take Provincial Road 152 south towards Lao Chai. After about 3 km, there is a small turnoff near Lao Chai. Tra San where you leave the main road and start following the signs to Y Linh Ho village. The journey takes only 15 to 20 minutes , making this a quick and flexible option for travelers who want to experience the countryside without spending too much time on the road.

The closer you get to Y Linh Ho, the steeper and narrower the road becomes, making it difficult to navigate, especially after rain, as the road surface can be slippery. On clear days, this route offers spectacular mountain views and a bit of adventure, but when it rains or is foggy, it becomes more dangerous. Due to the sharp turns and uneven road surface, this route is not recommended for those who lack experience driving in difficult terrain conditions.

Try on traditional H'Mong costumes

As you explore the villages around Sapa, you will come across colorful Hmong costumes available for rent for between VND150,000 and VND400,000 per day ($5.78 - $15.41), often offered at the village gates or by locals. Exploring Bai Tu Long: A unique alternative to Halong Bay

Indochina Junk - Located next to Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay is receiving attention and investment with many new tourism products and itineraries in a unique, outstanding and different direction.

Located in the Northeast of Quang Ninh province, Bai Tu Long Bay has hundreds of large and small islands. Different from the hustle and bustle of Ha Long, this bay has a pristine beauty, less affected by urbanization. This is a "rough gem" with more than 600 majestic islands, mysterious caves, a diverse marine ecosystem including mangrove forests, corals and traditional fishing villages, along with pristine beaches.

Notably, Bai Tu Long National Park - the 38th ASEAN Heritage Park, with more than 2,200 species of organisms, including many rare species, along with a unique ecosystem of coral reefs, mangrove forests and pine forests. In addition, the bay also preserves important historical and cultural heritages, becoming a potential "resort paradise".

This is the golden material that helps Bai Tu Long develop unique, outstanding and different tourism; emphasized in the Project, Master Plan for tourism development to 2030 and realized through meetings and conferences to discuss the direction of tourism development in Bai Tu Long Bay.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the Bai Tu Long Bay Tourism Development Conference held in March 2025 in Van Don District (now Van Don Special Zone), Bai Tu Long currently possesses many favorable conditions for breakthroughs. Synchronous transport infrastructure includes roads, sea routes, and airways; the accommodation system is increasingly diverse with large resorts such as Wyndham Sonasea Van Don, Angsana Quan Lan and the upcoming Ao Tien area with more than 1,000 rooms. The island landscape is suitable for year-round development for many sightseeing products, swimming, boating, paragliding, recreational fishing or ecological experiences.

In fact, Bai Tu Long tourism has had many positive movements in recent times, and specific products have been formed. Since 2024, Quang Ninh has announced 10 tours on Bai Tu Long Bay and 3 routes connecting Ha Long Bay - Bai Tu Long Bay. Recently, many businesses have participated in developing products and services, such as: Viet Thuan Company deploys tours connecting Ha Long Bay - Bai Tu Long Bay; Hang Ngoc Rong Company Limited and Vung Duc Tourism Company organize art performances combined with cuisine at Vung Duc Cave and a boat tour of the bay departing from Bai Tu Long coastal port; Vietnam Sightseeing Joint Stock Company develops double-decker bus and coffee bus services.

In Van Don, Everland Group has invested in cruise ships to take visitors on tours of the bay; Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board has built tourism products associated with conservation and experiencing nature. These activities show substantial steps in exploiting potential, forming a diverse product chain, connecting the community and positioning a unique tourism brand.

Besides these encouraging developments, it can be seen that Bai Tu Long Bay has not been exploited to its full potential. To promote development, tourism businesses propose that development must go hand in hand with conservation; building products that are closely related to people's lives, so that the community becomes a link in the development of experiential tourism.

Also at the Bai Tu Long Bay Tourism Development Conference, the Provincial Business Association said that Bai Tu Long - Van Don should be positioned as a destination for tourists who love exploring nature, experiencing ecology and adventure sports, instead of just sightseeing on a boat like Ha Long Bay.

This area has the potential to become a unique destination with outstanding products such as island discovery tours, overnight cruise tours combined with outdoor activities, marine ecological experiences and cultural tourism. Investing in this direction will create a strong impression, attract new customer groups, including international visitors and enhance tourism in Bai Tu Long Bay.

To fully exploit the potential, Provincial People's Committee said that it is necessary to develop synchronous tourism infrastructure connecting Ha Long Bay with Bai Tu Long and the island routes, diversifying products onshore and on the islands; studying the arrangement of separate areas, ensuring landscape and security, serving high-end tourists with high spending capacity. At the same time, investors are requested to study high-quality resort complexes with international brands, while protecting the ecological environment in Van Don and the islands in the bay.

Bai Tu Long is not only a "buffer zone" of Ha Long Bay but also a convergence of unique landscape, ecological and cultural values. Although tourism here is currently limited in that the products are not diverse, easily "overwhelmed" by Ha Long Bay, infrastructure and connections are fragmented, and management is overlapping, but with a strategy to develop outstanding and different products, this place can become a leading, promising destination.

Most beautiful tourist destinations in Na Hang

Na Hang Hydropower Plant

The most attractive tourist destination in Tuyen Quang is the Na Hang Hydroelectric Plant. Currently, the Na Hang Hydroelectric Plant has changed its name to Tuyen Quang and is located on the Gam River basin. This is also the 4th largest hydroelectric plant in the North. Not only providing electricity for local people. Na Hang Hydroelectric Plant is also a favorite destination for tourists. Because of its wild and poetic beauty like a vivid oil painting in the middle of the vast forest. In addition, the sound of the majestic water of the Na Hang Hydroelectric Plant also makes visitors excited!

Na Hang Lake

It would be a mistake to mention Tuyen Quang tourism without mentioning Na Hang Lake. Na Hang Lake is a reservoir of Tuyen Quang Hydroelectric Plant with a capacity of up to 1,500 million m3 of water.

Coming to Na Hang you will not only be amazed by the vastness of the lake. But you will also be "conquered" by the romantic beauty of Na Hang Lake. Especially at dawn when the golden sunlight shines down on the water surface, making Na Hang Lake shimmer and magical. And when the sunset falls, the image of the Sun is reflected on Na Hang Lake, looking strangely attractive.

Vai Pha pile

Coc Vai Pha in Tay language means “the stake to tie the Heavenly buffalo”, this name is associated with a famous legend. The story is about a young man named Tai Ngao - the one who built a dam to prevent flood water from entering the village.

When you see Vai Pha pile standing tall in the middle of Na Hang Lake. You will probably immediately think of the famous Ha Long Bay. If you want to have "lifetime" photos during your trip to Na Hang, don't miss this "Ha Long Bay" background in Tuyen Quang!

Mo Waterfall

Mo waterfall also has another name, Pac Ban, with a system of 3 waterfall floors with its own beauty. In the middle of the vast wilderness, the white Mo waterfall appears extremely prominent on the deep green background of the primeval forests.

From afar, approaching Mo waterfall, you will be able to hear the roaring sound of water flowing from the first waterfall. The first waterfall impresses with its majestic beauty pouring down from above, creating white foam. The second waterfall has a gentle beauty like an 18-year-old girl. Finally, the highest waterfall has a majestic beauty like a brave general. Remember to save Mo waterfall in your Na Hang - Tuyen Quang travel itinerary!

Tat Ke - Ban Bung Nature Reserve

If you have the opportunity to travel to Na Hang, you should visit the Tat Ke - Ban Bung Nature Reserve. Tat Ke - Ban Bung Nature Reserve is located in the territory of 4 communes: Con Lon, Son Phu, Khau Tinh and Thanh Tuong. With an area of about 41,930 hectares, Tat Ke - Ban Bung Nature Reserve is home to a diverse and rich flora and fauna system.

Pac Vang Temple

Pac Vang Temple is located in Con Lon Commune. Pac Vang Temple is a “souvenir” that the Chinese community left behind before leaving the land they had long been attached to. The Chinese community built Pac Vang Temple to worship Quan De Dai Than and the Mother Goddess.

However, because Pac Vang Temple is located in a low position, when building Tuyen Quang Hydroelectric Plant, people moved to a higher position. That is the position you see when visiting Pac Vang Temple today. Pac Vang Temple is the "embodiment" of the cultural exchange between the Chinese and the Vietnamese Mother Goddess worship. Don't forget to make a pilgrimage to Pac Vang Temple during your Na Hang trip.

Khuoi Nhi Waterfall

Khuoi Nhi waterfall is located in Thuong Lam commune and is located about 36km from Na Hang town. You should experience a boat ride on the lake to reach Khuoi Nhi waterfall. From afar, you will see a waterfall with many levels pouring down from a height of 3,000m like a giant transparent wall. The sound of the water pouring down blends into a pleasant and natural melody. In addition to sightseeing and taking photos, you can also experience the free fish massage service at Khuoi Nhi waterfall. Just soak your feet in the cool water. The small fish will come to "massage" you. Khuoi Nhi waterfall promises to bring you great experiences!

Travel Ha Giang and top 6 things not to miss

The following experiences for visitors to Ha Giang promise to bring you unforgettable memories. Ha Giang tour

Solo travel

Solo travel is always one of the experiences for visitors to Ha Giang, especially those who love the feeling of adventure. And of course, solo travel is no exception when you intend to conquer the dangerous and steep roads in this remote border area.

Although traveling alone is a relatively adventurous experience and has certain challenges, this journey still promises to bring you memorable experiences throughout the trip. Moreover, what this activity brings to you is the ability to be more proactive in all situations, to be able to solve and decide all problems, without being bound or dependent on anyone.

Above all, during the trip, you will enjoy the feeling of freedom, not being constrained by anything or influenced by anyone. At this time, you will have a memorable and quiet time to quietly feel the beauty of the border area with countless scenes that make many people miss it.

However, this solo journey requires participants to be equipped with many necessary life skills as well as always maintain alertness, agility and flexibility in all situations.

Camping overnight

It would be a big mistake if the top experiences for visitors in Ha Giang were to miss out on overnight camping. What could be more wonderful than the feeling of having the ground as the foundation and the sky as the roof to spend a day in this remote borderland.

Camping overnight means waking up in a remote place where no one knows who you are, and you don’t care if they know who you are. What you do know is that you will be greeted by the brilliant sunrise at the top of a windy mountain pass, breathing in the fresh air, and looking out into the distance to see the mountain passes hugging the mountainside.

The most popular overnight camping spots are Ma Pi Leng Pass and Don Cao Peak with open views and fresh air.

Conquering the Nho Que River

This is truly one of the experiences for visitors to Ha Giang, especially those who are truly brave. Usually, after conquering the Son Vi border area, people will choose to go by raft back to Meo Vac area. This journey will help people shorten the travel time a lot, instead of having to go through Xin Cai.

The rafts used to travel down the Nho Que River are usually made of bamboo, with a simple steel wire pulley system attached. This is truly a challenging experience reserved for those with high levels of courage.

Overnight in ethnic minority villages

This is a popular experience for those who travel alone to the sunny and windy Ha Giang region. You can freely choose to stop at the villages in Lung Cu, Khau Vai, Du Gia or Lung Ho to fully explore the simple lifestyle of the ethnic minorities here.

If you want to be allowed to stay overnight in the village, act like a friendly, polite guest from afar. Note that you should not abuse the habit of asking to stay overnight too much to avoid causing unfortunate troubles for both yourself and the local people.

Trekking Ma Pi Leng Pass

The Ma Pi Leng Pass trekking journey always promises to bring you unforgettable memories. If you have plenty of time, then this is the most suitable experience for visitors to Ha Giang.

On this journey, you will be able to conquer the most beautiful spots on the pass, known as one of the four great mountain passes in the North. Throughout the trip, you will have to overcome steep slopes, despite the dry sun and the sweltering heat. However, in return, when standing at the highest point of Ma Pi Leng, you will realize that all your efforts will be rewarded with the majestic natural picture stretching out before you.

Explore the wild caves

The famous caves in Ha Giang always attract many people, especially young people who love exploration and adventure.

On the journey to explore the caves, you will certainly experience adventurous moments and also be surprised and excited when you see with your own eyes the wild and majestic scenery.
